After graduating from Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School, she pursued further studies at Marmara University. She completed the Department of Public Relations and Publicity, at the Faculty of Communication, which provided her with the opportunity to encounter the colors of various different fields. With the curiosity inherited from her family, she also pursued an MBA at San Francisco State University and specialized in the field of management.
Despite her young age, when she went to America, her goal was not only to pursue a master’s degree, but also to step out of her comfort zone and be by herself in another country. The feeling that “There must be something beyond all this…” that had always been inside her finally pushed her towards this journey. After spending six years in America, she returned and worked for various companies in Turkey.
After all the experiences she had and being driven by the profound curiosity about her existence, Serra Sağra, then headed towards yoga and meditation in 2009, which led her to meet Çetin Çetintaş.
The process of transforming her life into practice began through her Master-Apprentice relationship with Çetin Çetintaş and as a yogi, she passed on to brahmacharya life. Throughout the process, she participated in trainings in various ashrams in the Far East and experienced monastery life for an extended period. This 13 years of journey, as of 2022, has now transitioned into being a Guru herself.
Serra Sağra, aiming to access the fundamental texts of Yoga from their original sources, deepened her journey by learning the Sanskrit language through her trainings in India. By 2017, she began working on Sanskrit inscriptions.
Serra Sağra, co-founder of YogaKioo Turkey, the world’s largest yoga school, has also been in charge of YogaKioo Europe since 2016 and has been working to make the timeless knowledge of these teachings accessible to more people.
Starting from December 2022, she has been living and teaching at Kioo Retreat Center, which is the largest project brought to life by YogaKioo Institute Turkey and is where the heart of yoga beats in Turkey. Kioo Retreat Center, situated on 43 acres of land, is the first retreat center in Turkey with an accommodation capacity of over 250 people and of 500 people for events and organizations.
In addition to yoga trainings, YogaKioo Institute Turkey, where various studies on yoga are carried out and Turkish yoga resources are created with great care; continues its activities with its 24 branches located in Turkey and TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) and continues to be a home of practice for yogis from many parts of the world.
Serra Sağra is the cofounder and publishing advisor of the YogaKioo Magazine, Turkey’s and TRNC’s only printed yoga magazine, which she established with Çetin Çetintaş, under the umbrella of YogaKioo Publishing.
Starting its publishing life in 2019, YogaKioo Magazine holds an archival quality with its each issue and continues to bring readers together with articles about life from various perspectives and with the profound knowledge of the yoga philosophy.
Serra Sağra, in addition to organizing training programs within the YogaKioo framework, ensures yoga knowledge to reach as many people as possible through yoga contents she has been creating and sharing on various platforms such as Youtube, Instagram and more.
Although it dates way back that she started writing about this profound knowledge that would help liberate people, and shared it orally for years upon her experiences and the life that she had built on, she published her first book in January 2021, about Patanjali, the author of Yoga Sutras where yoga teachings are believed to have emerged from.
She created with this book, “Patanjali; If you want to know what you are, you should look at what you are not”, yet another resource for the ones seeking their own essence.
Her subsequent books were focused on the epic, “Mahabharata”, which she had been intensely working on since 2018. To make this timeless and magnificent work accessible to a wider community and to make it more understandable, she divided the epic into a serie of four books and added her original narrative to it. “Mahabharata, Fire” was published in October 2021 and “Mahabharata, Earth” in February 2023.
Having given trainings on Yoga Philosophy in various countries till this day, Serra Sağra continues to add new works in this field each year, serving as an intermediary, in order for this knowledge that has existed for a thousand years to find its place within modern people. She aims to shed light on the paths of those in search of themselves by sharing her own experiences.
